Carrier oils and the difference from essential and carrier oils

A carrier oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds, kernels or the nuts.

If applied to the skin undiluted, essential oils, absolutes, CO2s and other concentrated aromatics can cause severe irritation or reactions in some individuals. Carrier oils are used to dilute essential and other oils prior to application. They carry the essential oil onto the skin.
Each carrier oil offers a different combination of therapeutic properties and characteristics. The choice of carrier oil can depend on the therapeutic benefit being sought.
Natural lotions, creams, body oils, bath oils, lip balms and other moisturizing skin care products are also made using vegetable (carrier) oils. From a simple essential oil/carrier oil blend to a more complex natural lotion, your choice of carrier oil can make a difference in the therapeutic properties, color, overall aroma and shelf life of your final product.

Essential vs. Carrier Oils
Essential oils are distilled from the leaves, bark, roots and other aromatic portions of a botanical. Essential oils evaporate and have a concentrated aroma. Carrier oils, on the other hand, are pressed from the fatty portions (seeds, nuts, kernels) and do not evaporate or impart their aroma as strongly as essential oils. Carrier oils can go rancid over time, but essential oils do not. Instead, essential oils "oxidize" and lose their therapeutic benefits, but they don't go rancid

Examples of vegetable oils that are used as a carrier in hair care:

Jojoba Oil - Great for all hair types. Jojoba has an ability to inhibit excess activity of the sebaceous glands making it the perfect choice for people with oily scalps that still need conditioning. Can be used for dry hair as it helps to moisturize your hair properly.

Olive Oil - strengthens your hair and nourishes. Olive oil adds loads of shine and smoothes the cuticles. Great for fizzy hair! Just a note: You might want to use a conditioner after an hot olive oil hair treatment as I have found hair is still tangle.

Coconut Oil - is one of the oil which helps in the lubrication of the hair. It softens the hair and conditions the scalp. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair.  It is very useful for damaged hair due to its ability to strengthen it. Also said to be a wonderful oil for Dandruff.

Rosemary Herbal Oil - is very useful for the unwanted and flaky dandruff problems. Rosemary oil helps in stimulating follicles, as a result of which, hair grow longer and stronger.

Castor oil - Rich in ricinoleic acid (triglyceride of fatty acid), castor oil can be used to treat skin conditions such as fungal infections. It nourish hair and prevent the scalp from drying by retaining moisture  Castor oil added to hair care products helps to seal moisture, soften, and thicken hair.

Vitamin E oil -  Vitamin E is a well known antioxidant and when added to homemade products, helps extend their shelf life.  Vitamin E acts as a rejuvenator and protection for scalp and skin.

Avocado Oil- Perfect for Dry Hair. Avocado oil is full of vitamins your hair needs like vitamins A, E, D and potassium. This added to other carrier oils makes a perfect deep treatment.

Hemp Seed Oil - Brings gloss and manageability to hair as well as relief from dry scalp or hair damage caused by blow-dryer heat, chemical perms, coloring or sunlight. Loaded with moisturizing and replenishing Essential Fatty Acids

Essential Oils

Single Essential Oil Profiles, Benefits, IndicationsI have been researching lately the benefits and uses of essential oils. The information below is very informative. I will also gather information on carrier oils. I also have some recipes that I want to try out and I will share with you the WHAT WHY AND HOW's.

What are Essential Oils?

They are subtle, therapeutic-grade oils distilled from plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. They are oxygenating and help transport nutrients to the cells of our body. Without oxygen, nutrients cannot be assimilated; therefore, the oxygenating essential oils can help us maintain our health.

Benefits of Essential Oils

One of the most popular applications for essential oils is in the field of aromatherapy. This highly skilled art uses essential oils to assist in the healing of physical, psychological and aesthetic ailments. It is the only therapy that utilizes the most neglected of the senses, smell.

There are many ways to incorporate the benefits of aromatherapy into our daily lives. They may used to stimulate and invigorate us in the morning, and then to calm and restore our peace of mind at the end of the day. Essential oils may soothe inflammation, act as an antiseptic, help dull pain and stimulate digestion. We encourage you to experiment with our full line of essential oil products so that you may discover which uses and fragrances work best for you in any given situation or state of mind. Once you've learned a little about the uses and benefits of essential oils, you'll be amazed at how you can take control of your health, the air you breathe and the food you eat-all in a safe, chemical free manner.

Essential oils have cytophylactic (cell regeneration), antiseptic, and wound healing effects as well as anti-fungal and anti-inflammative properties making them the ultimate active principles for holistic natural skin-care.

How do Essential Oils work?

Essential oils are composed of tiny molecules which are easily dissolved in alcohol, emulsifiers and fats. This allows them to penetrate the skin easily and work into the body by mixing with the fatty tissue.
As these highly volatile essences evaporate they are also inhaled, thus entering the body via the millions of sensitive cells that line the nasal passages. These send messages straight to the brain, and affect the emotions by working on the limbic system, which also controls the major functions of the body. Thus in an aromatherapy treatment the essential oils are able to enhance both your physical and psychological well-being at the same time.

Each oil has a distinct chemical composition which determines its fragrance, color, volatility and the ways in which it affects the system, giving each oil its unique set of beneficial properties.

What are the effects of using Essential Oils?

Oils can directly or indirectly affect the body's physiological systems. For instance, a couple of drops of peppermint taken orally can aid digestion and inhalations of mucolytic oils can relieve respiratory symptoms. Used topically for their antiseptic and soothing effects, essential oils can successfully treat minor skin conditions. It has been demonstrated that the application of certain essential oils to the skin can produce vaso-dilation which in turn causes warming of underlying muscles, however this is an indirect effect of the oil acting on the superficial tissues, it is not a pharmacological effect produced as a result of the oil entering the systemic circulation via the skin. In addition, because of the effect of relaxation on the brain and the subsequent sedating or stimulating of the nervous system, essential oils can also indirectly raise and lower blood pressure and possibly aid in normalization of hormonal secretion.

Because of olfaction's direct connection to the brain, sending electrical messages directly into the limbic system, essential oils can have effects on emotions and mental states. Perception of odors can have a major impact on memory, learning, emotions, thinking and feeling. As therapeutic agents, essential oils work similarly to tranquilizers but in a subtle organic way. Most scents uplift spirits and calm the nervous system. For example, lavender is calming and sedative; basil, rosemary and peppermint are uplifting and stimulating; and jasmine and ylang-ylang are exciting or euphoric.

Caring for Naturally curly hair.

I will be posting over the next few days some of my staples, recipes, and tips that I have learned since going natural. I started with a TWA (Tweenie Weenie Afro) back in October and now my hair is about ear lobe length.

What I have learned it to stay AWAY from youtube when it comes to caring for MY hair. I believe that everyone on youtube offer so much information and are very helpful BUT sometimes I tend to say well if it works for them it has to work for me. NOPE not at all. I do use youtube as a guide but I have found that the most valuable information that I received is from my hair. I am learning to listen to my hair and find what works for my hair.

In these next post, I will share with you some of the information that I have learned to help you learn your hair.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Also, I dont know if I shared this with you before but one of my children have allergies towards all tree nuts so I will be offering tips and recipes that will not include nuts but works great just the same with your hair.

So what is your favorite green veggie??

I know that I dont have to tell you how important our green veggies are but I do have a question. What is your favorite green veggie and how do you prepare it?

I LOVE Asparagus and Sugar Snap peas. I prefer the Sugar Snap Peas raw. My Asparagus preparation is quite easy. I drizzle EVOO, salt and pepper and then roast in my preheated 375 oven for 15-20 minutes until its a lil crispy at the tips. LOVE it.

Reason why I ask is to get new ideas on how to prepare my veggies.

What do you want to know??

If you are a avid reader or just a reader of my blog, is there anything that you would like for me to discuss? DO you have questions? Or topics that you want me to talk about more or less about.

I do realized that I stated will be doing more recipe post but haven't yet. I do plan on delivering. School is just kicking my B U T T. I really haven't had the time to take pictures and document my steps. But I will. Just  let me get out of Statistics II and I will have a clear head again. I usually post first thing in the morning or at night. I am usually far from thinking about the kitchen at that time.

I have gotten emails to talk about being an Army wife/Officer wife. Which I am working that in my posts, as well. I really don't know what to say because I feel that its just like being any other wife but I am working on it.

I will also be talking about my favorites more....shopping. As you see, I have started posting freebies. I will also talk more about sales and my method of shopping. How not to break the bank. Come with me and we will be shopping Divas and not going BROKE! My most popular post are my shoedazzle/Justfab post. I will keep them coming.

So let me have it. What do you want me to talk about? You can post a response here or email me. I will be sure to address the topic either here or in a private setting.

Thank you all for your support.

Hurry up and wait....Army life

I got a kick out one of my friends on Facebook, today. She was complaining about how she hates her husband job because they are slow at doing things. Then she ended her comment with "I can't wait until he enlists in the Army!" All I could do is laugh. One thing you will learn in the Army is patience. The Army motto is "Hurry up and wait." Nothing is done when you want it. If you are reading this and a Army wife, you know what I mean. I told her, "don't think it gets any better in the Army." She said, "he will get more than 12 hours per week, right?" Oh hunny, the Army is going to get their money worth. While my husband  is deployed, he works 10am to 12am the next day every day.Well sometimes he will get off about 10pm or so...sometimes. He will not get a day off until he gets back home.

No real point to this post but I got a kick out that. I know that some of my readers are military affiliated and would get a kick out of that, too.

"Big Funny Cards, Personalized Greeting Cards."

Hey all,

Steve over at Bigfunnycards.com gave me the opportunity to review their cards today. I really was thrilled to do this. This was a great opportunity for me to out do my husband. He is usually the one to say it and say it big. Well, he is not going to top me this year. I ordered a Valentine's Card. I was able to personalize it with my own wording. I was also able to add a picture. This was awesome and pretty easy might I add to create. Since my husband is deployed I think this JUMBO card would make his day.

They offer cards in just about EVERY Category. They even give you the opportunity to personalize the card to fit your needs. In which all can be done very easily on their website. The prices range from $19.50 to $39.50. They also offer cards with special cut outs; such as roses for $5.00 more, and all are shipped for free.

My personal favorite is the "Money Tree" card. Bigfunnycards.com will provide you instructions on how to fold your money to look like leaves on the tree. Cool, right?!!!

I would recommend this service to everyone especially if they want to make a big statement even bigger. . They will have a lot of fun designing. The kids would really have a ball.

Polish review and a little update.

So I got some much needed work done today. I went and got the kids shot records, grocery shopping, and stopped by the wellness center to check my appointment. The rest of the day was fulled with my mommy duties. I really need to make a checklist for things I need to get done. I forgot about the spray paint. I remember that I had to get the children registered for extracurricular activities. There is something else but I cant remember. OHHHH, Pay on my Layaway. One of my ways that I try to save and budget my money is use layaway. Last year, I went on a financial improvement self-improvement. This is one of the things that I do to help me stop spending soo much money. My layaway for for the house. I go room to room and make a list of the things I need and I layaway. Also, one of the things that I started doing is going to the ATM every two weeks and get money out, sort of like any allowance. It helps me not use my credit and debit cards. I think twice about my spending with I know that I only have a set amount to spend.

GRADE: C

I would have given the polish a F but I LOVE the brush. It's a flat brush and I just love it.

The Color payoff- GREAT. One coat was all I needed to get a vibrant color

Packaging- Great. I love the bottle shape. I also love the brush as I stated previously.

Cost- 7.50 regular price. I got it on sale for 4.49

This is my second time using the product. When I first used the product I used it without a base and top coat. NO GOOD. The polish started chipping the next day. By the third day, it was almost gone. I used two coats.

This time, I used a top coat. Now because my nails have the ugly tips because of removing my gel nails, that portion chipped. On the parts of my nails and on the nails that have grown out, no chipping. I wouldn't buy again because to me for 7.50 It should do what it claims. I have an awesome color, though. 430 Grass Slipper

Where has the week gone

We had a four day weekend and I cant believe that its the eve of THURSDAY. I have so much I wanted to get done but haven't found time to get half the things I need to get accomplished.

I went thrifting today to see if I can find some awesome curtains for my bedroom. Well I didnt just go thrifting. I went window shopping all over. Well anyway, I didnt find anything from the thrift store. Umm, yes I did. My kitchen is cafe theme and I found these awesome metal bag looking things. I should have taken a picture but I dont feel like going back downstairs.

SIDE NOTE: Have you ever gone down the stairs because you needed something and then once you are back up stairs again you realize that you needed something else. Well I did that 5 times a few minutes ago. YES, five times. Finally I just stood in front of the steps and thought about it for a minute. I was not going down them steps anymore.

Ok back on track. I, also, went shopping to find something cute for the kids to wear in their portraits soon. I dont know what I want them to wear. I just want something really cute. I went to Children's place, Target, and Old Navy (They were all were in the same shopping center). I think I found some things I just have to go back to Children's place some time this weekend. I had to do some car debating. Drive and think about what I REALLY wanted for them.

Then I stopped by Maurices, Bed Bath and beyond, and Kirklands. I went to Kirklands to see if I can find something for my bedroom. I did find some awesome curtains but I forgot the dimensions of my window. All I could remember was huge and hard to shop for. GRRRR!!! Left empty handed. I really didnt see anything in BBB, neither. I did see some coffee. I have a Keurig and I realized that the best selection is there. Will be going back, that was the last store I went to and I had to get going so I wouldnt be late getting the kids from school.

Maybe that's why I cant get what I need to get done...Shopping! But wait I shopping on a mission and a plan. I have to get my bedroom decorated.

I never been to Maurices before but they had HUGE sale signs in the window. I HAD to check that out. They had an AWESOME sale, 75% of all clearance merchandise. On top of that, they offer a 10% military discount. I didnt get much but I did get a 4 shirts and 4 trouser socks. I believe I have spend 25. No more than 27. Tomorrow they start a BOGO sale on dressy apparel.

Besides waiting on the Directv guy to add a box to another room and driving 30 minutes away to get meds, that was my day. Tomorrow, I have to get some grocery shopping done. I hate grocery shopping. I am going to get started on my lamps. I have to grab some chrome spray paint. I will have before and after pictures. I also just finished with my nails. You should see how I am typing to protect them. I will do a review on this polish tomorrow. I wanted to talk pictures and the camera is downstairs. LOL!!

Well I better get off here. Statistics II is calling my name. I am trying to ignore the calls but no use. One more week of class and I am done. LORD, please help me though the rest of this class.

Day at the mall

Day at the mall
Day at the mall by momwifemedaily featuring a 3 4 sleeve cardigan

I am on a mission to find this outfit. 100 bucks or less

Sunday, January 16, 2011

I found this website and I am having fun. This is my first outfit that I created. I seen this actress with an outfit similar. I can't  remember what the website I found it to compare but here is my first re-creation. FUN FUN FUN!!!!

Am I mean??

I decided that I wanted to plan a girls weekend when my husband returns from deployment. I really need a weekend at the spa. I am planning this with my sister in law, friends, and a cousin. Also, I decided to invite my friends from high school that I havent seen in years. I thought it would be a good idea to find out everyone's budget before I get to planning so that I dont leave anyone out. I emailed everyone. Everyone gave me a pretty reasonable budget. But one friend never responded to my message. Which I kinda knew what that meant but I just let it go. If she couldnt afford to do it. Its no big deal. Maybe next time, right??

Well, she called me Friday and asked where were we going. I told her that I asked everyone where they wanted to go and most are saying Vegas. I also have a GREAT rate to go. She said well how about we go to Panama City. At first, I responded what the hell is in Panama City. Believe me, I dont have anything against the area but where did that suggestion come from. Panama City from Vegas?? You know that doesnt make sense. Then she explained. She said that her mom lived in Panama City and her mom could cook for us. That's sweet and all but if I want to get away why would I want to go to her Mom's house. Not only that, no one knows her mom. Then I realized that its just a hop skip and a jump from her house. I didnt say nothing because I didnt want to hurt her feelings but REALLY why the heck do I want to go to visit her Mom. Ummm, I got a free pass to get out while the kids and my husband have some rebonding time after a year deployment. I am taking up on the offer. Plus I am going to have a weekend spent with massages, wine, and sightseeing.

My problem is how do I tell her thanks but no thanks. I dont want to hurt her feelings. Dont let me forget that she snuck in there that she is using her money for her family trip not a girls weekend. Which I understand. But if you really want to go, you have to be able to work with EVERYONE not just what is acceptable for you. People are traveling from all over; east west and the south. We are spitting 360 between 6 people for the hotel. Its a condo rental with kitchen. So we dont have to spend money on going out to eat much if we dont want to. All you have to worry about is the airfare. You cant beat that with a stick.

Am I being unreasonable?

This week's talks

I am really writing this for myself so I can keep track of what I wanted to share with you.

I have a lunch date with the the ladies coming up and I want be real cute....Come on dont talk about me. I havent had a girls day or night since I moved to Texas. I am excited. Plus shopping is helping with my pedometer. I move a lot more when I am shopping. I just have to get some ideas on what look I am going for.

I also want to share a recipe that I found with you. Its far from healthy but it sounds a little tasty. Fried apple cobbler. I will have a healthy dish to share with you as well but I really want to try the fried apple cobbler.

At the weeks end, I will share with you my exercise dairy. If I can remember I will also give you my menu that I used for the week.

I have nail polish that I want to review as well as hair pomade. I am trying to challenge myself from walking away from the gels.

If the rain lets up, I will walk you through my lamp re-do. I found some lamps for my bedroom at the goodwill. I am not doing anything fancy but I will share.

If you have any other ideas. Email me.

Have a wonderful week, ya'll! How is your weather? Its been rainy and more rainy here.

Color Craze Nail Polish

Since I have been on a mission  of caring for my nails, (MAN, I MISS MY GEL TIPS! But anyway, I digress). I picked up a few different colors I am only going to review the brand not the colors I purchased.

I found LA Colors Color Craze Nail Polishes with Hardener nail polish on the dollar store. This product isn't bad for a buck. I had the same nail polish on for a week and not much chipping at all. So I really like it. Stop by the dollar store and get you cool colors. The colors that I tested needed about two or three coats.

I will be reviewing Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure next week.

Recipes...

I have been asked to share my recipes that I use during my lifestyle change. I will love to share. It will give me the opportunity to find new recipes. So be on the look out. I have some recipes on the way. I will also share some of my favorite seasonings. Also, if you have a request for a recipe you would like for me to try let me know. Maybe I can try it and put my take on it. This will be a lot of fun and give me some new ideas in the kitchen.

Out with the old, in with the new....habits that it.

Beyonce's Fitness trainer, Marco Borges, said in order to form
a routine, you have to stay consistent for 21 days. If you push
through the 21 days, the 22nd day will be second nature.
I want to see if this reigns true. Day 5 on my 4 miles per day routine. I will be taking the weekend off so my body can have
some rest.

I also trying to eat 6 meals per day. Which is HARD for me.
I dont take the time to eat. So now, I am trying a little extra effort in what and when I eat.  I am eating 2100 calories per day. People forget that if they add exercise to they lifestyle that
their calories has to match their lifestyle. If you don't supply your body with the calories they it needs it will still hold on to what it has. Which will slow down your weight loss. I found that out the hard way.

Also, The dietitian told me that everyone should eat within the first 30 minutes of waking
up. It assist with speeding your sluggish metabolism. Breakfast means we are breaking the
fast. Our body needs the nutritions that it missed during our nightly fast. Since our body
isn't as high tech as we have evolved to, we have to treat it as the same old machine it was made to be.
